JAMA Paper: Autonomous AI May Outperform Hybrid Human-AI Care
alvelda · x · 2026-08-18
Vinod Khosla and co-authors published a paper in JAMA arguing that when AI's standalone performance consistently surpasses human-only performance, AI alone will outperform human-AI hybrids. Paradoxically, the paper suggests that hybrid care, where humans intervene to correct AI errors, is likely to worsen rather than improve performance. Medicine is rapidly approaching a transition point where autonomous AI will exceed both physicians and physician-AI hybrids in providing the best care.
