dair_ai · x · 2026-08-18
Data mining nine months after Anthropic open-sourced the SKILL.md format reveals 3.8M SKILL.md files across 282,200 public GitHub repositories.
Key Findings:
- Skills resist traditional software mining as they are written in natural language and selected probabilistically at runtime.
- There is no registry or package manager; they spread primarily by copying folders between repos.
- The research groups these into 1,877,981 distinct contents and ships them as a single SQLite file with front matter, folder contents, and commit history.
