Deepfake voices pose a nightmare scenario for diplomatic calls
Dapper-Path-585 · reddit · 2026-08-18
With advances in AI voice cloning, the practice of relying on voice recognition to verify identities—common among diplomats and officials—is becoming risky. If an attacker can clone a known contact's voice, recognizing the voice is no longer proof of identity.
The author questions how real this threat is in practice: Are deepfake calls frequent enough to force a change in verification protocols? What countermeasures can be implemented?
