- Alex Atallah co-founded OpenSea in 2017 ($13.3B peak valuation) and left day-to-day ops in July 2022, right before the market cooled — arguably the luckiest founder ever.
- He then co-founded OpenRouter, a routing layer offering hundreds of models via one API, charging 5% of AI spend routed through it — described as "an AI equivalent of Stripe." It raised $150M+, including a $113M Series B at a $1.3B valuation in May.
- Stripe has now reportedly agreed to acquire OpenRouter for more than $7 billion.
- Dramatically, one day later Straitly launched a rival gateway with 0% markup: one API key for 142+ models from 20+ providers, intelligent re-routing with a 99.98% success rate, $100 free credits and up to 30% off the first $10K of token spend — pricing OpenRouter's core fee model to zero.
