Claude Fable 5 shows spatial reasoning: turns single image into interactive 3D physics simulation
ProfBuehlerMIT · x · 2026-08-17
MIT professor Markus Buehler demonstrated Claude Fable 5's spatial reasoning capabilities for engineering. Given a single photo of a hierarchical mesh torus, the model built a full interactive 3D simulation in one shot:
- Consists of 1,400 nodes and 4,400 fibers.
- Features realistic mass-spring physics that users can grab, compress, and twist.
- Includes strain-based sonification to 'hear' structural vibrations.
Notably, it inferred the complete 3D topology from a partial 2D view.
