NVIDIA secures power for OpenAI in $600B AI infrastructure expansion through 2030

NVIDIA announced a partnership with SB Energy to secure power capacity (LPS) at the PORTS-Pike campus in Ohio for building AI factories, with OpenAI as the anchor tenant. This move addresses the critical infrastructure constraints faced by frontier AI labs.
Key Details:
- Initial Scale: The initial deployment targets 4.25 gigawatts, potentially hosting 1.5 million GPUs with an estimated value of $150-$200 billion.
- Long-term Commitment: OpenAI has committed to 12 gigawatts of NVIDIA compute by 2030, expandable to 16 gigawatts, representing roughly $600 billion in opportunity.
- Financial Guarantee: NVIDIA is providing a limited guarantee for portions of lease and power payments over a 20-year term, phasing in from 2028 to 2030. NVIDIA clarified this is not circular financing and noted that its compute is versatile and fungible, allowing capacity to be resold to other tenants if necessary.
