179 new unicorns in H1 2026, AI startups make up 57%: report

Ruishou Analysis (under Chuangyebang) released its H1 2026 global unicorn report. 179 new unicorns globally, up 250.98% YoY — 81 in the US, 68 in China, together over 80% of the total; 2,034 unicorns exist worldwide.
AI is the main driver: 102 of the 179 (56.98%) are AI companies; 42 of China's 68 are AI firms, including 23 in embodied intelligence covering robot bodies, components and embodied brains. Several AI companies founded less than six months ago quickly reached unicorn status, such as Yunlion (Pragmatic Tech) by former Alibaba Qwen lead Lin Junyang, Kunlun Robotics, and Qingtian Leasing.
Funding and exits: follow-on funding is concentrating in AI — OpenAI raised $122B Series E, Anthropic $65B Series H; Sequoia China topped the capturer list with 14 investments. Chinese exits center on HK IPOs, with Zhipu AI, MiniMax and Biren among the listings.
