Researchers at King's College London have developed AI tools combining statistics and machine learning to make string theory testable for the first time. By using the axion, a dark matter candidate, as a test case and applying Bayesian inference, the team modeled how detecting a heavier axion would impact predictions about extra dimensions in string theory. The study is published in Physical Review D.
