Hermes Agent hits 2,500 contributors, proving open local agents can rival closed labs
amu4biz · reddit · 2026-08-17
Nous Research and Teknium announced that their Hermes Agent project has surpassed 2,500 GitHub contributors, outnumbering the engineering staff of many funded labs. Unlike closed-source agents built by hundreds of paid engineers, Hermes is built by volunteers, emphasizing full local execution, no cloud ties, no telemetry, and experiential learning. Community demos show bots autonomously splitting tasks to build a game project. This challenges the notion that building capable agents requires a giant walled lab.
