Scott Gray has left OpenAI. He joined in 2016 and was a key early technical contributor, working on sparse Transformers, the discovery of Scaling Laws, and GPT-3, while also focusing on low-level GPU system infrastructure.
According to Business Insider, OpenAI has seen 12 executives depart this year. The report notes that while the list is long, veterans like Scott, who built the foundational GPU systems for early models, are particularly difficult to replace.
