Stripe has agreed to acquire AI model router OpenRouter for over $7 billion, per Bloomberg, potentially a record for the sector. OpenRouter is the largest hosted model API gateway, processing 25 trillion tokens weekly and integrating over 400 models. Its business model acts as the "Stripe for AI," helping enterprises avoid vendor lock-in.
OpenRouter previously raised over $150 million with a $1.3B valuation in Series B, backed by a16z and Nvidia.
