Stripe has finalized an agreement to acquire OpenRouter for more than $7 billion, according to a Bloomberg report. This is more than five times the $1.3 billion valuation from its funding round just 82 days ago.
Commentator Andrew Carr noted that while surprising, it is the next logical choice as many large startups move into the AI infrastructure layer. He suggests it makes sense for Stripe to act as a routing and platform layer, likely paying a significant premium.
