Why AI detectors shouldn't be treated as reliable evidence

AI detectors infer authorship from statistical patterns like predictability and sentence structure, not actual knowledge of how text was produced. This creates risks of false accusations, especially for students, non-native speakers, and those with concise styles. They offer at best a weak signal for investigation, not proof of misconduct.
