Codex Desktop remote compaction repeatedly fails with 404, breaking long sessions
ianpurves · ghdev · 2026-08-16
A user reports repeated 404 errors during remote context compaction in Codex Desktop, making it impossible to continue long-running sessions. The error occurs at the /responses/compact endpoint and has reproduced multiple times. The user had to stop development, create a 1.4GB recovery snapshot, and rebuild context. This issue affects continuity of long development and research sessions.
