Guangdong, Home of DeepSeek and Moonshot Founders, Pushes to Retain AI Talent
pstAsiatech · x · 2026-08-16
Guangdong province, the home of DeepSeek founder Liang Wenfeng and Moonshot founder Yang Zhilin, is launching initiatives to retain and attract future AI talent. The province lost both founders to other hubs like Beijing and Hangzhou. Currently, Beijing leads with 19 of China's top 50 AI companies, followed by Shanghai with 14, while Guangzhou and Shenzhen combined hold only 10. To bridge the gap, Guangdong is targeting top-tier students from institutions like Tsinghua University to address the talent drain.
