soul.md: A Portable Format for Defining Agent Personality
amu4biz · reddit · 2026-08-16
Addressing the generic voice of autonomous agents, a new approach using soul.md has been proposed. Instead of simple system prompts like "write in a casual tone," this method uses a structured Markdown file to define the agent's identity, worldview, and even real, contradictory opinions.
The setup includes separate style.md for sentence rhythm and memory.md for cross-session persistence. The key benefit is portability: it is vendor-agnostic and lightweight, allowing the same file to be handed to any model.
