Namuk Park, former DeepMind researcher and Research Director/Chief Scientist at the UK AI Security Institute (AISI), announced he is leaving AISI for family reasons to return to the Bay Area and start a new nonprofit AI alignment research organization. After two years at AISI, he praised the institute's impact on sharpening AI risk discussions within the UK government and internationally. He will remain as an advisor and encourages talented individuals to join AISI. He reiterated his original motivations: technical safety research is too slow, coordination between AI developers and society is under-resourced, and governments have a crucial role.
