Hank Green faces AI backlash over ChatGPT-sounding phrase; Matt Wolfe defends him

Popular science creator Hank Green landed in an AI controversy after viewers decided his phrase "I appreciate the pushback" sounded suspiciously like ChatGPT, sparking accusations that he outsources his writing. Green responded that he doesn't use AI to write scripts, but does use it to help find research papers, which he then reads himself.

AI YouTuber Matt Wolfe came to his defense. He understands why audiences care — if you watch a creator specifically for their opinions and commentary, you don't want those outsourced to an LLM — but using AI as a better research tool, or to organize your own messy thoughts, strikes him as a completely valid use case.

Wolfe also argued creators deserve more grace: they're under constant pressure to research, write, film, edit and publish while juggling families, businesses and lives off camera, so seeking a more sustainable workflow is inevitable. The episode highlights how the creator community is still negotiating which uses of AI are acceptable.
