OpenAI is shipping an update next week that makes extremely long ChatGPT and Codex conversations dramatically lighter. Citing an OpenAI engineer confirming "will go out next week," the author shares internal test numbers from a massive 741-turn, 231 MB conversation:
- Average load time drops from 27.62s to 1.66s — 94% faster
- 87.8% less conversation-renderer memory growth; 41.2% less whole-app memory growth
- Requests fall from 894 to 16 (−98.2%)
- Transcript items loaded fall from 15,529 to 64 (−99.6%)
A long-awaited fix for power users who've waited minutes to open very long threads.
