Report: 36% of ERC-8004 Agents Share Identities, Index Analysis Reveals
GlobalScoreAgent · reddit · 2026-08-15
An analysis of 408k registered ERC-8004 agents reveals significant issues with identity uniqueness:
- Cloning: 36% of agents share an identical (name, description, URI) triple with others. A single template accounts for 114.5k agents (28% of the total).
- Descriptive Overlap: 86% of agents fall into shared description-hash clusters, and 22% have blank descriptions.
- Chain Contrast: BNB has a 50% triple-clone rate. Ethereum L1 has a lower clone rate (14%) but 61% are flagged as test-realness. Celo shows much cleaner data.
- Quality: Average metadata richness is 35; only 2.8% score above 60. 69% are valid, while 15% are test agents and 8% are dummies.
Conclusion: "Registered agent count" is a weak proxy for distinct identities. Discovery and ranking layers need strategies to handle clone filtering or uniqueness weighting.
