Dev Accidentally Burns $1,475 in API Credits via Fast Mode Bug
bytebot · x · 2026-08-15
A developer discovered significantly higher ChatGPT API usage than reported by standard tools: $372.29 in July and $1,475.46 so far in August.
The cause was a local /fast mode setting that caused test suites to accidentally call the quota-hungry gpt-5.6-sol fast model instead of the intended model. A multi-hour run consumed 40% of the weekly quota. Rules have since been updated to restrict tests to Terra only.
