AI safety org METR raises $71M to study autonomous capabilities and recursive self-improvement

METR (Model Evaluation & Threat Research) has raised approximately $71 million in commitments over the last six months. The funding will support ambitious projects focused on studying autonomous AI capabilities, tracking recursive self-improvement, evaluating monitoring systems, conducting risk assessments, and investigating AI incidents. METR is dedicated to advancing the safety evaluation and threat research of frontier AI models.
