Memories persist even after half of brain connections wiped out, study finds

A study published in New Scientist found that memories in mice persisted even after losing connections thought needed for recall. This 'remarkable' discovery expands our understanding of memory in the mammalian brain and could one day reveal ways to improve it. Steve Ramirez at Boston University said it 'absolutely, substantially advances our understanding of how memory works.'
