Cryptographer Matthew Green: encryption backdoors will hurt US citizens most

Cryptographer Matthew Green argues that the biggest losers from government-demanded overt access mechanisms will be US citizens themselves—not foreign targets. Other countries will simply disable those overt backdoors or refuse to use US products, meaning such backdoors only remain effective at home or in allied nations.

The view he responds to suggests we are heading quickly toward a "going dark" world: either vendors will be openly required to build in access mechanisms, or agencies will have to learn to live without that access.
