AI Security Expert Predicts Government Demands for Backdoors in Encrypted Systems

Matthew Green predicts that as AI vulnerability discovery improves, governments may explicitly demand access to encrypted systems and personal devices like phones. Even surreptitious backdoors may be detected. Frontier labs might temporarily provide preview access to intelligence agencies, but this won't stop other countries from releasing open-weight models, shortening exploit lifespans and raising costs.
