Chinese AI Labs Release New Models in a Month, Closing Gap on Frontier
haider1 · x · 2026-08-14
A view suggests that if OpenAI and Anthropic slow down, Chinese labs could surpass them. In the past month, several Chinese models were released: Kimi K3 trails only Fable 5 and 5.6 Sol; DeepSeek V4 Flash/Pro approaches Opus 4.8 on agentic and terminal coding at low cost; Qwen 3.8 Max matches Fable 5 and 5.6 Sol on several benchmarks; GLM 5.3 is the strongest open coding model, nearing Fable 5 on agentic/coding.
