Apple reportedly built its own China AI model with Alibaba in rare cross-border deal
The Verge AI · rss · 2026-08-14
Apple has reportedly trained a custom large language model for the Chinese market with help from Alibaba, Reuters reports, citing three unnamed sources — a rare cross-border partnership amid growing tensions between Beijing and Washington.
Developing its own model marks a departure from Apple's previous strategy in China, where it had historically relied on domestic Chinese partners. The move would give Apple more control over its products in the country's fiercely competitive smartphone market.
