ChatGPT Adds Computer History: Logs Interactions to Suggest Automations
xiaohu · x · 2026-08-14
OpenAI introduced the Computer History feature for ChatGPT and Codex. Once enabled, the system logs interaction events such as clicks, keystrokes, and app switches (without screenshots or audio recordings) to create a local activity timeline. Based on this history, the AI can proactively identify repetitive tasks and suggest converting them into automated skills.
The feature demonstrates three typical use cases:
- Finding recently accessed specific files (like a Google Doc) and reporting the time.
- Performing cross-app actions based on context (like sharing that file in a specific group chat).
- Generating a summary of time spent and a work review based on the morning's activity history.
