CoreWeave Defends GPU Lifespan: A100 Contracts Run Through 2029

CoreWeave co-founder Brannin McBee pushed back against the narrative that AI chips become obsolete in 2-3 years.

He noted that clients are actively requesting the 2020-era A100 architecture because it remains the most performant and cost-effective platform for their specific workloads. The company recently signed a take-or-pay, fixed-price contract for A100s extending to 2029—by which time the chips will be 9 years old. McBee added that A100 pricing has held solid since early 2025, validating a 6-year depreciable life for GPUs.
