Cara Founder Slams AI Scraping: Millions of Artists' Works Violated Despite Opt-Outs
zemotion · x · 2026-08-14
The founder of artist platform Cara posted a lengthy thread condemning relentless AI data scraping. Despite deploying Cloudflare anti-bot measures, setting robots.txt to block AI crawlers, and opting out of federated services, Cara's data remains a target.
With over a million users and 12 million images, the platform simply aims to be a safe space for artists. The founder rejected the narrative that creators should just avoid posting if they don't want their work scraped, comparing it to blaming a store for having windows. She is currently involved in two class-action copyright lawsuits and called for stronger legal protections for creators.
