Cognitive scientist Donald Hoffman discusses his bold academic mission: to develop a mathematical theory showing that reality arises from consciousness.
Regarding AI consciousness, he explicitly states that current AI algorithms have not demonstrated consciousness. Furthermore, no existing theory of consciousness can identify a computational structure that produces even one specific experience, such as the taste of mint. He argues that science should begin with conscious experiences or observers and then explain how physics and spacetime arise from them. Additionally, the Trace Institute is developing 'recursive trace logic,' using Markov matrices to model observers and their observations.
