Jiahui Yu, head of Meta's multimodal team, announced his departure to start a new venture after just over a year. He led the development of MuseSpark and other multimodal models, with MuseSpark 1.2 releasing just before his exit.
Recruited last year with a rumored "$100 million compensation package," Yu was a key figure in Meta's Superintelligence Labs (MSL). His departure fuels ongoing debates about Meta's aggressive talent acquisition strategy, with data showing over 900 AI researchers have already left the company.
Yu stated he will focus on a critically important, under-explored problem but shared no further details about his new company.
