OpenAI Scientist Aidan McLau: AI Takeoff Is a Continuation of Human Super-Exponential Growth

OpenAI research scientist Aidan McLau shared his views on the pace of AI development. He expects progress to be extremely rapid in the coming years but disagrees with the idea of a sudden "discontinuity" in AI or economic progress.
He argues that the current AI leap is simply a continuation of the super-exponential growth seen over the last 5 years of tech, the last 50 years of the market, and the 200,000 years of human evolution. Citing Leopold, he noted that people often fail to see this because they view GDP on too short a time horizon.
