The Real Divide in AI Coding: Unsupervised Generation vs Verified Engineering

The author argues that the label "AI slop" is too blunt an instrument. The real divide is not whether an AI agent or a human wrote the code, but whether actual engineering verification was applied to the result.
As code generation becomes cheaper, the engineering value moat moves upward: generation becomes cheap, while verification becomes valuable. The scarce skills of the future will no longer be manual typing, but task decomposition, architecture design, deterministic testing, security boundary review, and owning system failures.
The author concludes that the future is not vibe coding replacing engineering, but engineering evolving into a control system around increasingly capable generators. Engineers who learn to run agents within these boundaries will gain enormous leverage.
