Frontier LLMs Hit Perfect Detection Rate in UEFI Firmware Vulnerability Tests

evilsocket · x · 2026-08-14

Security firm Binarly evaluated frontier LLMs on their ability to discover UEFI firmware vulnerabilities. GPT-5.6 Sol and Claude Opus-5 achieved a perfect detection rate, while Kimi K-3 matched their performance at a 43% lower cost.

When applied to a real flagship laptop, the AI pipeline identified 87 candidate vulnerabilities, with 18 manually confirmed so far. The team noted that models alone aren't enough; combining them with firmware-specific context and binary-analysis tooling like VulHunt makes the difference.
