Matic Robot Vacuum Ditches LiDAR for Pure Vision and Onboard AI

kimmonismus · x · 2026-08-14

Startup Matic introduced a smart robot vacuum relying on a pure vision system. Abandoning the standard LiDAR, the device uses five RGB-IR cameras and an onboard NVIDIA Jetson Orin chip for edge inference.

This vision-first architecture allows it to build and continuously update a photorealistic 3D map of the home. It can accurately identify and differentiate objects like charging cables, socks, or pet waste, applying distinct cleaning strategies. The robot also features precise voice and gesture control, backed by a perception stack in development for seven years.
