GlenBradley · x · 2026-08-14
X (formerly Twitter) has announced it is open-sourcing the recommendation algorithm for its "For You" timeline alongside new transparency initiatives.
- Open-sourced components: Includes core ranking systems, model configurations, timeline filters, and content labels affecting post visibility.
- Under the Hood page: A new feature allowing eligible users to see if visibility-limiting labels were applied to their accounts or posts, with data available for download.
- Pilot program: Initially rolling out to a randomized group of accounts at least one year old with 10+ posts in the previous month. X also invited independent recommender-system experts to review and pressure-test the system.
