Tesla AI Engineer: Real-World Long-Horizon Tasks Are the Baseline for Robotics

The author contrasts the training goals of typical AI labs with those of Tesla. He points out that when most labs announce they have 'finished training,' it often merely means they have raw weights and a primitive harness, far from being capable of handling complex tasks autonomously.
At Tesla, however, the model is required to tackle real-world challenges directly, with the minimum baseline being autonomous driving for commutes and weekend errands. Such 'long-horizon' tasks are considered fundamental in real-world AI applications; without mastering them, robots cannot move an inch.
