Netflix Adopts Kueue to Replace In-House Kubernetes Batch Scheduler

Google engineers highlight that batch processing remains crucial for large-scale computing. Since Google helped introduce Kueue—an open-source job queueing controller for Kubernetes—four years ago, the project has seen major adoption.
Streaming giant Netflix recently announced it is adopting Kueue to replace its internal batch scheduling tool. Kueue manages batch jobs as a single unit, natively supports the Kubernetes Job API, and offers hooks for custom batch APIs.
Key features of Kueue include:
- Quota & Budgeting: Effectively manages resource limits and cloud spending in multi-tenant environments.
- Fair Sharing: Dynamically and fairly allocates unused quota from inactive tenants to active ones to maximize utilization.
- Flexible Placement: Supports scheduling across heterogeneous resources, such as different GPU or CPU architectures and provisioning modes.
