Claude Opus 5 Rebuilds Million-Character Mapping Table Offline in 6 Seconds

A developer documented an incredibly creative autonomous reasoning process by Claude Opus 5. While testing the --to-ascii feature of the rnr CLI tool, the model had no internet access to fetch an existing character lookup table.

To solve this, Opus 5 proactively passed filenames full of Unicode to the tool and recorded the ASCII output. By processing 8 characters at a time in 1,000-character chunks, it queried all 1.1 million Unicode characters in just six seconds, effectively rebuilding the entire mapping table from the tool's feedback.
