Azure Content Understanding Update: GPT-5 Series Support and Agentic Workflows

Microsoft announced the latest updates to its Azure Content Understanding service, designed to help enterprises transform unstructured content like documents, audio, and video into AI-ready data. This release includes several core upgrades:
- Models & APIs: Broad support for the GPT-5 model series, reduced token usage, and new synchronous APIs for Read and Layout.
- Extraction & Reasoning: Improved confidence scoring, advanced contextualization for higher-quality extraction, and the introduction of agentic document reasoning for complex scenarios.
- Workflow Optimization: Semantic chunking for retrieval workflows and new tax-focused prebuilt analyzers.
Additionally, the refreshed CU 1.0 API is now generally available for production workloads.
