A new report by ThreatDown reveals that 74% of organizations are running more AI tools than expected. While anticipated workforce AI usage sits at 33%, the observed median is actually 58%.
This rise of "Shadow AI" creates significant data security blind spots, as employees routinely paste sensitive information like customer contracts and source code into unaudited external tools. The risk is compounded by modern AI agents that possess standing permissions to read files, execute code, and connect to other systems via protocols like MCP, quietly building an unmonitored supply chain.
