Users Cancel Claude Subscriptions Over Invisible Watermark Backlash
Hesamation · x · 2026-08-13
A wave of users is canceling their Claude subscriptions following Anthropic's introduction of an invisible watermark mechanism in the model's outputs.
A heavy user listed the core reasons for cancellation:
- Invisible Watermarks (Most Critical Issue): To comply with EU AI Act codes of practice, Anthropic will default to embedding invisible watermarks in new and existing Claude models without user consent. Users feel this marks and tracks them for using an essential, everyday tool.
- Users expressed a fundamental disconnect and lack of trust in the tool, refusing to pay for a service that monitors them.
