Pure Rust Whisper Rewrite Delivers 6x Faster In-Browser Transcription

frankenwhisper is a Whisper transcription and speaker diarization tool built entirely in Rust. It compiles OpenAI's Whisper large-v3-turbo (874MB) and NVIDIA's Sortformer (469MB) models into WebAssembly, running entirely on the browser's CPU with zero bytes uploaded to ensure total privacy.
Independent tests report that the tool is up to 6x faster than regular Whisper on Mac, with 4x speed improvements when transcribing audiobooks. Requiring no PyTorch or Python environments, it combines high performance with deployment convenience.
