MiniMax H3 Community License Bans Use in US, EU, UK, and South Korea
howardhus · reddit · 2026-08-13
A developer has pointed out that the recently popular MiniMax H3 model, despite being open-sourced on Hugging Face, contains strict territorial restrictions in its Community License.
Under the "Applicable Territory" definition, the European Union, United Kingdom, United States, and South Korea are explicitly listed as "Excluded Territories." Section V.4 states that users may not use, reproduce, modify, distribute, or display the model and its outputs within these regions. This means developers operating or deploying the model in these areas are technically unauthorized, though the license provides a route to contact MiniMax for a separate commercial agreement.
