Vandalized Wikipedia Briefly Made Google Search Show Sam Altman's Fake Death
tekbog · x · 2026-08-13
Google Search's Knowledge Panel briefly displayed a false report claiming OpenAI CEO Sam Altman had died on August 12, 2026.
The fake death date and unsupported claims originated from a vandalized Wikipedia page. Although both Wikipedia and Google quickly fixed the error, this incident was caused by traditional search results pulling from a polluted data source rather than an AI Overview hallucination.
