To address the challenges of unknown wind conditions in low-altitude drone delivery, researchers introduced EWR (Energy-Aware Wind-Resilient Routing), an online risk-sensitive planning framework.
- The Problem: Existing routing methods rely on static or deterministic energy models, often underestimating headwind, crosswind, and battery risks, leading to return failures.
- The Method: EWR models the delivery environment as a time-dependent directed energy graph. It dynamically updates edge costs using delayed noisy wind estimates, payload states, and conservative uncertainty margins.
- Results: Tested with replayed wind logs from a public truck-UAV dataset, EWR significantly improved mission success rates and reduced wind-induced return failures.
