Opinion: Knowledge Economy Bifurcating, Frontier Model Limits Reveal Startup Opportunities
ycombinator · x · 2026-08-13
Investor Anshul Gupta argues that the knowledge economy is splitting into two sub-economies:
- Tasks that strictly require current frontier models to be executed well.
- Tasks where performance is indistinguishable whether you use DeepSeek, GPT-5, or Claude.
He points out that the vast majority of the existing economy already falls into the latter camp. Excitingly, the coolest startup ideas are now hidden in the former, pushing the boundaries of what frontier models can do.
