Renowned CS Scholar Loses Tenure Amid AI-Driven Academic Cuts

Lance Fortnow, a well-known computer scientist, recently lost his tenured position at Illinois Tech due to severe financial cuts.

He attributed the crisis to multiple factors, including changing visa requirements and a weaker job market for Master's students partly driven by AI. He noted that as AI transforms how and why we teach, Illinois Tech is likely just the first of many tech research schools to eliminate tenured roles.
