Google Introduces ResidencyRL: Training AI Doctors via Simulated Clinical Practice
SRSchmidgall · x · 2026-08-13
Google introduced a new research approach called ResidencyRL, aiming to teach AI medicine by simulating a human doctor's 'residency' through reinforcement learning.
While traditional AI doctors rely on textbook-style static data, ResidencyRL introduces a simulated clinical environment where the model evolves through real-world modeling feedback. This RL mechanism is considered the missing link in turning AI into a fully-fledged specialist clinician.
